The Orton Gillingham Online Academy offers an Orton Gillingham Level 1 certification.

Upon completion of the Level 1 Course requirements, you will qualify for our Practicum Extension for certification. This  Practicum Extension involves 108 hours of 1:1 supervision. You will select a student with whom you can complete all 108 Level 1 lessons, and will be assigned a supervisor through our academy. All communication with your supervisor will be via phone, email, or Zoom. You will submit video-recordings of your lessons, and email copies or photos of prepared lesson plans, student artifacts, and fill out a detailed reflection sheet following each lesson. During this experience, your supervisor will provide support and lesson planning feedback, and will always be available to answer questions via email, schedule phone/video consultations, and support you throughout the entirety of your practicum. Our supervisors are experts in the fields of Dyslexia and Orton Gillingham, with years of experience to share.

A portfolio is also a requirement of the Practicum Extension. The portfolio provides an opportunity for you to summarize the experience and to reflect on knowledge and insight gleaned during the practicum. You will also complete 3 benchmark assessments – one at the start, one midway through, and one at the end of your practicum. The benchmark data you gather for your portfolio will show your student’s improvement and highlight the efficacy of your teaching. Upon completion of the requirements, we will award certification, as well as a letter of recommendation from your supervisor. This certification will provide quality credentials and qualifications to practice successfully as an Orton Gillingham teacher.

NOTE: This is not a self-paced course. There is a timeline on which you must work to receive your certification. You must be able to complete a minimum of three lessons with your student every week through the duration of your practicum.

Included in this Course:

·      Assigned supervisor/mentor

·      One-on-one supervision and ongoing support

·      18 video observations

·      Detailed lesson planning feedback

·      A complete portfolio

After completion of the Orton Gillingham Practicum Extension requirements, we will award participants with a letter of recommendation and certification.

You must be able to spend roughly 5-10 hours per week preparing, delivering, and reflecting on your lessons throughout this Practicum Extension.
