Section 1: The Problem

You Already Know What the Data Is Telling You

Your screener results flagged the students who are behind. What they did not tell you is whether your staff has the training to close that gap, or whether a Tier 2 label will repeat itself every year until someone changes what is being taught.

That is the decision sitting on your desk right now. Not whether your students need stronger reading instruction, but whether your staff has the structured literacy training to deliver it, at scale, without pulling teachers out of classrooms or waiting on a PD day that will not come until spring.

We hear the same five questions from every administrator we work with:

  • Does this satisfy our state’s Science of Reading legislation, dyslexia screening mandates, or CEU and PD-hour requirements?
  • Will this move outcomes for a whole grade level or building, not just one classroom?
  • What does this cost per teacher, and which budget line does it come from?
  • Does this require substitute coverage, a facilitator, or scheduled release time?
  • Has this worked in a district that looks like mine?

The rest of this page answers all five.

Section 2: What You’re Actually Buying

Training Built for Your Entire District

Orton Gillingham Online Academy’s (OGOA’s) courses give every teacher on your staff the same structured, sequenced framework, so a student’s instruction does not change character when they move from one classroom or grade level to the next. All courses run through our self-paced online learning platform. Staff work through the material on their own schedule, with unlimited access after purchase.

Course What It’s For Format & Investment
Basic Language Course (Level 1) The foundational training for K-3 teachers and interventionists. Most districts start here as the staff-wide onboarding course. 30-40 hours, self-paced. $595 per seat.
Comprehensive Structured Literacy Course Full diagnostic and intervention training for reading specialists, interventionists, and SLPs on staff. *Includes Level 1 Course 50 hours, self-paced. Covers literacy’s “Big Five.” $1295 per seat. *This training includes the Orton Gillingham Basic Language Course (Level 1).
Level 1 Practicum Extension (Certification Practicum) Builds one or two truly expert staff members, a building-level literacy lead, rather than training the whole staff to this depth. 108 hours, mentored. Requires Level 1 completion.
Supplemental Workshops & Webinars A low-commitment entry point, useful for a PD day or for a district testing OGOA before a larger commitment. Self-paced, with unlimited replay access after purchase.

Section 3: Optional Add-On

Add Virtual Facilitator Support

Self-paced training gives your staff flexibility, but flexibility is also the first objection administrators raise: what keeps a group of busy teachers on track without someone checking in? Virtual Facilitator Support is an add-on to any group district enrollment that gives your training a start date, a finish line, and someone watching the progress in between.

3 Virtual Office Hour Sessions Live sessions scheduled during your training window. Participants bring questions and work through tricky concepts with a live facilitator.
1 Follow-Up Q&A Session Scheduled one month after training completion, so participants can debrief, apply what they’ve learned, and ask questions that have come up in the classroom.
Custom Pacing Guide Built around your group’s start date and target completion date, so every participant knows where they should be each week.
Weekly Progress Reports Regular updates on participant progress throughout the training window, so administrators and facilitators stay informed without extra legwork.

Investment: $2,500 flat per district group enrollment (not per teacher). Available as an add-on to any group enrollment, regardless of size.

Ask about adding Virtual Facilitator Support when you request your group quote.

Section 4: How Group Enrollment Works

Every course is self-paced, so training a grade-level team, a building’s interventionists, or an entire K-3 staff does not require scheduled release time, a substitute budget, or a facilitator to run the room. Staff log in on their own time and work through the same sequenced material. Virtual Facilitator Support (above) provides more structure and visibility along the way.

  1. Request group pricing for your staff size and the course (s) that fit.
  2. We send a group quote, along with details on what the training covers and how it maps to your state’s requirements. Let us know if you’d like Virtual Facilitator Support included.
  3. Your staff starts training on their own schedule.

Section 5: Proof

What This Looks Like in a Real Setting

A literacy coordinator we worked with enrolled twelve K-2 teachers in the Basic Language Course as a single group purchase, timed to start right after her district’s fall screener results came in. Her reasoning was simple. She did not want twelve teachers improvising twelve different responses to the same kind of gap. She wanted one shared framework, so a student’s instruction stayed consistent as they moved from one grade to the next.

Another district started smaller. One grade-level team piloted the Basic Language Course in the fall, and the administrator used that group’s results to build the case for a staff-wide rollout the following year.

We work with districts at every stage: a single pilot group, a building-wide rollout, or a multi-year staff-wide plan. The starting point matters less than starting with a shared framework.

Section 6: Questions Administrators Ask

  • How do we know our staff is actually completing the training?

Every participant’s progress is trackable through the course platform. For built-in, regular visibility without you having to check in yourself, add Virtual Facilitator Support to your group enrollment. It includes weekly progress reports sent directly to district administrators and facilitators.

  • Does this satisfy our state’s Science of Reading legislation or dyslexia screening mandates?

OGOA’s courses are built on structured literacy principles aligned with the Science of Reading, and they cover the core content most state mandates are built around: phonological awareness, phoneme-grapheme correspondence, syllable structure, and morphology. State requirements vary, so we recommend a short call to walk through your state’s specific mandate and confirm how our courses map to it.

  • Does this count toward PD hours or CEUs?

In many cases, yes. Because requirements vary by state and district, we confirm this directly for your situation when you request pricing.

  • What does this cost per teacher, and how does group pricing work?

Group and district pricing is quoted based on staff size and course selection. Reply with your team size and we will send a group quote, along with options that fit different budget lines and timing.

  • Does this require substitute coverage or scheduled release time?

No. Every course is self-paced. Staff complete the training on their own time, with unlimited access after purchase. There is no facilitator to schedule and no substitute budget to plan around.

  • Has this worked in a district like mine?

We work with districts of every size, from a single grade-level pilot to a full staff-wide rollout. See “What This Looks Like in a Real Building” below. If you would like to talk through what a training plan could look like for your specific staff and timeline, we are glad to get on a short call.

  • When should we start?

Districts that start training as soon as screener or benchmark data comes in generally have a full year of consistent instruction behind them by spring. Districts that wait are usually looking at the same data, with less runway to act on it. There is no wrong time to start, but earlier gives your staff more room to work.
