Description

The Pre-reader Home Review has activities to support the pre-reader or emergent reader at home or in a tutoring session. The materials primarily cater to preschool and kindergarten students, and they include the following:

  • Gross & fine motor activities
  • Letters for tracing (both for pre-readers and older student remedial practice)
  • Handwriting warm-up activities
  • Phonemic awareness activities
  • Blending drills (connecting symbol to sound to blend words, i.e. c-a-t /cat/)

We hope this Pre-reader Home Review is helpful to you as you review letters and sounds with students. These materials are designed to serve as a review and are not intended for parents to teach new concepts within an Orton Gillingham scope and sequence. Formal Orton Gillingham training and preparation are essential.

The students must know the letter names and sounds of the single consonants (including “qu”) and short vowels. This Pre-reader Home Review digital workbook focuses on lowercase letters, as the student will be exposed to more lowercase letters than uppercase. The OGOA offers a Handwriting Workshop that covers lowercase and uppercase letters, proper letter formation, and extension activities for older students with Dysgraphia.
